Overview
Some German banks—particularly Sparkasse (Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband)—require additional steps for online payments. If you see a “Transaction Not Permitted to Cardholder” message, it usually means the bank’s 3D Secure (3DS) verification wasn’t completed correctly. Why This Happens
3DS Authentication: Sparkasse often requires you to verify online purchases through their separate authentication app (in addition to your banking app).
Bank Restrictions: If 3DS isn’t completed, or your card isn’t properly authorized, the bank automatically blocks the transaction.
How to Fix It
Install or Update Sparkasse Apps:
Download the “Sparkasse authentication” app (separate from your regular Sparkasse banking app).
Ensure the app is the latest version, with notifications turned on.
Enable 3D Secure:
Open your Sparkasse banking or authentication app settings.
Find the “3D Secure” or “Online Payments” section.
Follow instructions to set up or confirm your 3DS details.
Verify the Payment:
When prompted during payment, open the Sparkasse authentication app immediately.
Approve or confirm the transaction. You may be asked for a PIN, fingerprint, or face recognition.
Try a Different Card or Payment Method (Optional):
If you have another card from a different bank, you can try using that.
In many cases, however, resolving the 3DS setup will let you continue using your Sparkasse card.
Contact Sparkasse Support (If Needed):
If you still receive the same error, call or email Sparkasse and explain the 3D Secure issue.
Ask them to confirm your card can be used for online payments with 3D Secure.
Common Myths
Changing Your Account: Opening a new account on our platform won’t fix the error. This is strictly an issue with your card’s 3DS authorization.
Bank Declines vs. System Errors: This error isn’t a bug in our system. It’s your bank stopping the payment for security reasons.
Additional Tips
Check If Card Is Blocked: Make sure there are no daily spending limits or blocks on your card.
Use Updated Contact Info: Ensure your bank has your correct phone number or email for 3DS confirmations.
