US Tax Forms on Fanvue (W-9, 1099-K & W-8BEN)

What's changed?

Fanvue now collects US tax information directly through a short tax interview during onboarding. This is a standard requirement across creator platforms and ensures we can issue the correct tax forms to US-based creators.

Do I need to complete a tax interview?

If you're a US-based creator receiving payouts, yes. You'll be asked to complete a brief tax interview before your first payout. This generates your W-9 form automatically. It takes a few minutes and only needs to be done once.

If you're based outside the US, you may be asked to complete a W-8BEN form instead. This confirms your non-US tax status.

What is a 1099-K?

A 1099-K is an IRS tax form that reports the total payments you received through a platform during the year. It's not a bill - it's a record of your gross earnings that you (or your accountant) use when filing your tax return.

The amounts on a 1099-K reflect your gross earnings before any fees, refunds, or chargebacks are deducted. This means the number will be higher than what actually hit your bank account. That's normal and expected.

Will I receive a 1099-K from Fanvue?

If you're a US-based creator and your gross earnings meet the IRS reporting thresholds, yes. Fanvue will issue a 1099-K for the relevant tax year.

The current IRS thresholds are:

  • 2025 tax year: $20,000 in gross payments AND 200+ transactions

  • 2026 tax year onward: $600 in gross payments (no transaction minimum)

These thresholds are set by the IRS and can change. We'll update this article if they do.

When will I receive my 1099-K?

For any given tax year, you'll receive your 1099-K by January 31 of the following year. For example, your 2026 1099-K would arrive by January 31, 2027.

What if I haven't provided my tax information?

If you haven't completed your tax interview, your payouts will be paused until it's done. This applies to all creators - the interview is where you confirm your tax status, so we need everyone to complete it regardless of where you're based.

If you're an existing creator, you'll have a grace period after this requirement goes live to complete the form before it affects your payouts. We'll give you plenty of advance notice by email and through an in-platform banner so you have time to get it done.

Completing the tax interview is the fastest way to avoid any disruption.

What if the amount on my 1099-K doesn't match my payouts?

The 1099-K reports gross transaction amounts before Fanvue's commission, fees, refunds, and chargebacks. Your actual payouts will be lower than the 1099-K figure. This is standard across all platforms.

When filing your taxes, you can deduct business expenses (including platform fees) against the gross amount. We recommend consulting a tax advisor for guidance on your specific situation.

I'm not based in the US. Does any of this apply to me?

If you don't earn income from US sources or you're not a US tax resident, the 1099-K process doesn't apply to you. You may still be asked to complete a W-8BEN to confirm your non-US status. Your local tax obligations depend on the laws in your country.
